The role

Evaluate technical documentation, 2D/3D CAD models, and manufacturing drawings to calculate accurate production costs and technical feasibility for custom sheet metal parts and assemblies, ensuring competitive and precise quotes in alignment with Idneo standards and profitability goals.

Key responsabilities

  • Review 2D drawings (PDF/DWG) and 3D CAD models to extract geometric data, material requirements, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications.

  • Determine required manufacturing process steps for sheet metal components, including laser/plasma cutting, punching, bending/forming, welding, hardware insertion, surface finishing, and assembly.

  • Calculate material usage, scrap rates, nesting efficiency, machine setup/cycle times, and labor costs using cost-estimation tools, ERP/MRP quotation modules, or standard formulas.

  • Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews to identify potential manufacturing issues or missing technical details in customer documentation, liaising with internal engineering or clients for clarification.

  • Prepare itemized technical-economic cost breakdowns and proposals in response to Requests for Quotations (RFQs), working closely with Sales, Purchasing, and Engineering teams.

  • Maintain and update internal cost databases for raw materials, hardware components, standard manufacturing rates, and tooling costs.

Job requirements

  • Education: Associate degree, Technical Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Manufacturing, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in cost estimating, production planning, or office engineering within the sheet metal fabrication industry.

  • Blueprint Reading: Strong ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and technical specifications.

  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Solid understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, flat pattern developments, bend allowances/deductions, and finishing processes.

  • Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel / Office Suite and ERP/MRP quotation modules.

  • Language: Professional working proficiency in English (both written and verbal).

  • CAD Software: Experience with SolidWorks (specifically 3D modeling, sheet metal module, and flat pattern generation) is a strong plus.

  • Experience with specialized sheet metal nesting or quoting software (e.g., Sigmanest, TruTops, Metamation, or similar).
